Use SEO to attract customers from Google

Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, is the art and science of gaining better visibility for your website pages when people search for products and services related to your business or e-commerce store on search engines namely Google, the market leader.

This means aiming to get your website listed in the organic section as shown in the image below, sandwiched between paid ads.

For this to happen at all, we need to ensure Google understands what your webpage content is all about. This includes using the keyword that you want to appear for, as well as related terms, in the following places of your website pages:

  • Meta Description
  • Alt text for pictures
  • Main body of text

When you deliver a great user experience to the end-user, search engines recognize this and will push your page up the search engine results page (SERP).

Another crucial factor is links to your web pages. This means other websites that let their visitors click over to your website or mention your business. This is a powerful signal to Google because an important website will normally reference only note-worthy or relevant websites or businesses.

Here, the stronger the authority of the sites that link over to you the better. A link from a government website, relevant to your industry, is far more powerful than a comment in a personal blog that has nothing to do with your industry. As you can imagine, meaningful link building will take quite a lot of effort to build.
